Grants & Subsidies
The grants and subsidies available to all sectors changes regularly, and for the newcomer, can be quite confusing.
The UK government has now unveiled its strategy to encourage renewable energy, and covers both electricity and heat generation.
In April 2010, the new feed-in tariff for electrical generation will be introduced and since its announcement, there has been a rapid growth in interest for solar pv, wind and hydro products. This feed-in tariff comprises a "generation tariff" which is payment for electricity generated renewably, and an "export tariff" for the energy fed back into the grid.
In 2011 the renewable heat incentive is due to arrive. This will be a world-leading scheme which will have undergone a consultancy process during 2011. Although details have yet to be confirm, it is likely that to be eligible, an scheme must use MCS accredited products.
There is still grant funding available for public sector and charitable bodies, and tax allowances for business to start investing in renewable energy - see the following pages for more details.
